Two treatments matter most for hotel fabric: protection from fire and protection from stains. They are added to the fabric when it is finished, and they solve different problems.
Fire-retardant treatment
A fire-retardant treatment makes fabric slower to catch fire and slower to spread flame. Hotels, restaurants and public spaces often have to meet a specific fire standard, and the standard depends on the country, the building and the hotel brand.
Questions to ask your supplier:
- Which standard does this fabric meet?
- Can you show a test report for the exact fabric I am ordering?
- Does washing or cleaning affect the treatment?
Stain-resistant treatment
A stain-resistant coating helps liquids sit on the surface for longer instead of soaking in. That gives staff time to wipe up coffee, juice or wine. It does not make fabric stain-proof, and it works best when spills are cleaned quickly.
Questions to ask your supplier:
- How should the fabric be cleaned?
- Does the coating change how the fabric feels or looks?
- Can it be applied to this specific design and colour?
Other protection worth asking about
- UV protection for fabric near windows or outdoors.
- Custom treatments for a special project.
Tip
Always order a sample, test it yourself, and keep the supplier’s documents with your project file.
